Tesla China’s new vehicle registrations saw a notable rise in the week of April 21-27, 2025. Over the week, the electric vehicle maker’s registrations saw an impressive 51% week-over-week rise, suggesting that domestic vehicle deliveries are on the rise once more.

Tesla China Results

In the week ending April 27, Tesla China saw 10,300 new vehicle registrations. This represents a notable rise from the company’s registration numbers in the past weeks of April. For context, Tesla China saw 3,600 registrations in the week ending April 6, 5,400 registrations in the week ending April 13, and 6,780 registrations in the week ending April 20, 2025.

Considering that April is the first month of the second quarter, expectations were high that Tesla China was allocating Giga Shanghai’s output for vehicle exports. With 10,300 registrations in the week ending April 27, however, it would appear that the company’s domestic deliveries are picking up once more.

Tesla China does not report its weekly sales figures, though a general idea of the company’s overall perforce in the domestic auto sector can be inferred through new vehicle registrations. Fortunately, these registrations are closely tracked by industry watchers, as well as some local automakers like Li Auto.

Tesla Model 3 and Model Y in Focus

Tesla China produces the Model Y and Model 3 in Giga Shanghai. Both vehicles are also exported from China to foreign territories. As per industry watchers, it would appear that both the Model 3 and Model Y saw an increase in registrations in the week ending April 27.

The Model 3, for one, appears to have seen 3,200 registrations in the week ending April 27, a 14% increase from the 2,800 that were registered in the week ending April 20. For context, Tesla China saw just 1,500 new Model 3 registrations in the week ending April 13 and 1,040 registrations in the week ending April 6.

The Model Y, on the other hand, saw 7,100 registrations in the week ending April 27. That’s a 77.5% increase from the 4,000 that were registered in the week ending April 20. Tesla also saw 3,900 registrations in the week ending April 13, and 2,540 registrations in the week ending April 6, 2025.

Tesla reportedly suspended Cybercab and Semi parts order amid tariff war: Reuters https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-reportedly-suspended-cybercab-and-semi-parts-order-amid-tariff-war-reuters/ https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-reportedly-suspended-cybercab-and-semi-parts-order-amid-tariff-war-reuters/#respond Wed, 16 Apr 2025 19:32:44 +0000 https://www.teslarati.com/?p=288118 A new report claims Tesla is suspending the order of some parts for the Cybercab and Semi from China due to tariffs.

The post Tesla reportedly suspended Cybercab and Semi parts order amid tariff war: Reuters appeared first on TESLARATI.

]]>
In a new report that cites people with “direct knowledge,” Tesla has apparently suspended a parts order for both the Cybercab and Semi that was set to come from China as a result of the tariff war between the country and the U.S.

Reuters reported this morning that the move was made as the 34 percent tariff on Chinese goods was raised to 145 percent. The report states that Tesla was “ready to absorb the additional costs when Trump imposed the 34 percent tariff on Chinese goods, but could not do so when the tariff went beyond that.”

This left Tesla in a situation where it had to make a decision, and ultimately chose to suspend shipping plans as a result.

Tesla, nor its CEO, Elon Musk, has responded to the report, so it is not known whether it has been confirmed. Tesla does not have a dedicated press relations division.

However, if it is true, Tesla would likely feel some repercussions from the parts delay for Cybercab, which it planned to launch in June with the start of a robotaxi ride-hailing platform in the City of Austin.

It is worth mentioning that this will not derail the plans completely, as the Model 3 and Model Y were also targeted to be a part of this initial rollout.

As far as the Semi, volume production is set to begin in early 2026. The first builds of the Semi’s high-volume design are slated to roll off production lines in Nevada late this year.

First Tesla Semi high-volume production builds expected this 2025

Tesla has responded to the tariffs in several ways, including halting the delivery of its Model S and Model X vehicles in China as the country imposed a 125 percent tariff as a retaliation against the United States.

It is no secret that Tesla is being impacted by the tariff situation, and Musk has been transparent about that. However, it is unknown whether it will begin to impact the company’s future projects, like the Semi and Cybercab.

Electric vehicles like Tesla have become very common today, but this does not mean that they are immune to misinformation campaigns. One of these points of FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt) relates to EVs’ alleged electromagnetic radiation, which is supposedly a potential health risk.

As per the China Automotive Research Institute, however, Tesla vehicles are not just safe from electromagnetic radiation—they are actually some of the safest vehicles in the market when it comes to radiation protection.

Tesla Model 3 and Model Y’s Results

As per Tesla China VP Grace Tao in a post on Weibo, the idea that electric vehicles expose occupants to electromagnetic radiation is a product of misinformation. As per the Tesla executive, the Model 3’s magnetic field strength near the driver and passenger’s head in the cabin only reaches 0.08-1.30μT, which is far lower than the magnetic field one would be exposed to if they use a conventional electric blanket.

“Taking Model 3 as an example, the magnetic field strength near the driver and passenger’s head in the car is only 0.08-1.30μT. In most cases, the magnetic field strength of an electric blanket close to the body is about 10-50μT, which is tens or even hundreds of times the strength inside a Tesla car, so car owners can rest assured,” Tao wrote in her post.

Beyond Standards

The Tesla VP added that the electromagnetic radiation values of Tesla’s vehicles are far lower than national and World Health Organization standards. During tests from the China Automotive Research Institute, the Model 3 and Model Y received five-star ratings of 100 and 98.6 points, which were notably better than combustion-powered cars and other electric vehicles that were tested in the same batch.

Tao explained how Tesla was able to achieve these scores below:

“How did Tesla do it? First of all, our centralized electronic and electrical architecture reduces the number of wiring harnesses a lot, and shielded cables are added, blocking 99.9% of the electromagnetic field energy. In addition, the network transmission antenna is installed outside the car, and the power of the Bluetooth transmitter is only a few milliwatts, so even if the people in the car are equipped with pacemakers, they will not be interfered with,” the Tesla VP wrote.

The post Tesla China sales soar in March amid new Model Y domestic deliveries appeared first on TESLARATI.

]]>
Tesla China was back in full form in March 2025, with the electric vehicle maker selling an impressive 78,828 vehicles wholesale.

Tesla’s wholesale figures in China were shared by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

Tesla China’s Strong March

Over the course of the month, Tesla China sold 78,828 vehicles wholesale, including 4,701 that were exported abroad. This means that Tesla China was able to sell 74,127 vehicles domestically during the month. That’s up 18.8% year-over-year and up 176.8% month-over-month.

Tesla China’s results in March are quite impressive considering that the company spent the majority of the first quarter transitioning Giga Shanghai to the new Model Y. The new Model Y only started domestic deliveries in late February, which is likely the main reason why Tesla China focused heavily on the local market in March.

Model Y and Model 3 in Focus

As noted in a CNEV Post report, Tesla China’s wholesale results in March included 49,029 units of the new Model Y. This represents a decrease of 14.8% from the 57,586 Model Ys that were sold in March 2024, but a 510.4% increase from the 8,032 Model Ys that were sold in February 2025.

Wholesale results for the Model 3 sedan during the month were 29,799 units, a year-over-year drop of 5.33% from 31,478 units that were sold in March 2024 and a month-over-month increase of 31.5% from the 22,656 units that were sold in February.

Tesla and China’s NEV Market

CPCA data indicated that China saw 991,000 New Energy Vehicle (NEV) sales in March. This represents an improvement of 38% year-over-year and an increase of 44% percent from February 2025. From this number, a total of 646,000 units were Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV).

With these results in mind, Tesla China commanded 7.48% of the country’s overall NEV market in March. The company’s share in the BEV segment last month was more notable at 11.47%.

With the second quarter of 2025 now starting, Tesla China appears to have shifted gears, allocating Giga Shanghai’s Model 3 and Model Y output to foreign territories.

This was hinted at in Tesla China’s new vehicle registrations in the week of March 31 to April 6, 2025.

Tesla China Registrations

In the week ending April 6, Tesla China saw 3,600 new vehicle registrations. This represents a 82.6% week-over-week drop from the 21,000 insurance registrations that the company saw in the week ending March 30, but it also represents a 91.5% improvement compared to the registrations from the first week of Q2 2024. Year-to-date, Tesla China’s registrations are up 3%, which is impressive considering Giga Shanghai’s changeover to the new Model Y.

Tesla China does not report its weekly sales data, though a general idea of the company’s performance in the overall Chinese automotive market can be inferred through new vehicle registrations. Fortunately, these registrations are tracked closely by industry watchers as well as automakers like Li Auto.

Vehicle Export Hub

While the notable week-over-week drop in Tesla China’s registrations for the week ending April 6 may seem jarring, it should be noted that Giga Shanghai is the company’s vehicle export hub. Thus, it allocates a significant portion of its output to markets that are supplied by the factory. This is one of the reasons why Giga Shanghai only saw over 1,900 registrations in the first week of Q2 2024.

Tesla China typically spends the first weeks of a quarter exporting vehicles to foreign territories, before focusing Giga Shanghai’s output for domestic orders. Considering that the new Model Y has just been introduced to the market, it would not be surprising if Giga Shanghai starts focusing on the local market in the weeks to come.

Tesla China saw a sharp rise in sales last month. After several weeks of throttled sales due to the new Model Y, Tesla China initiated a strong comeback in March.

Tesla China’s results in March were shared by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

CPCA Data

As per the CPCA’s recent data, Tesla China sold 78,828 vehicles wholesale in March. This number includes vehicles that were sold domestically and exported abroad.

Considering that Tesla China only sold 30,688 vehicles wholesale in February, March’s results represent a 156.87% month-over-month increase. However, these numbers still represent an 11.49% year-over-year decrease compared to March 2024.

Q1 2025 Results

For the first quarter, Tesla China sold a total of 172,754 vehicles wholesale. This represents a 21.79% year-over-year decrease from the 220,876 units that were sold wholesale in the first quarter of 2024, as noted in a CNEV Post report. This decrease, however, is likely due to the rollout of the new Model Y, which required adjustments to Giga Shanghai.

The Model Y’s update adversely affected Tesla’s results this Q1 2025, but the company remains optimistic about the revamped all-electric crossover’s ramp. “While the changeover of Model Y lines across all four of our factories led to the loss of several weeks of production in Q1, the ramp of the New Model Y continues to go well,” Tesla wrote in its report.

New Model Y Momentum

The new Model Y has been seeing some strong momentum since the vehicle started its domestic deliveries in late February. In March, Tesla sold a total of 43,370 new Model Y in China. This was enough to make the new Tesla Model Y the country’s best-selling vehicle for the month.

Tesla first launched the refreshed Model Y in China in January, debuting the refaced vehicle with a special “Launch Edition” series that came with special badging and an extra two years or 40,000km (~24,855 miles) of warranty time. Deliveries of the Launch Edition Model Y began in China late last month, and Tesla officially transitioned to selling non-Launch models in the first few days of March.

For the Chinese market and several others, Tesla produces the Model Y and Model 3 at a Gigafactory in Shanghai. In recent weeks, reports have suggested that Giga Shanghai may also be looking to produce an even cheaper version of the new Model Y without some of the extra add-ons, perhaps not unlike the cheaper Model 3 that launched in Mexico last August.

]]>
Tesla has tweaked the naming of its smart driving system offerings in China, with the company dropping “FSD” terminology from its vehicle order pages. The update was observed by industry watchers earlier this week.

Names Adjusted, Features Intact

Tesla China’s RMB 64,000 ($8,820) package—once listed as “FSD Intelligent Assisted Driving”—has been updated to “Intelligent Assisted Driving.” Its RMB 32,000 mid-tier system, previously dubbed “Enhanced Version Automated Assisted Driving”, has also been updated to “Enhanced Assisted Driving.”

Tesla’s basic Autopilot system, which was previously dubbed “Basic Version Assisted Driving,” has been changed to “Basic Assisted Driving” as well. Even the system’s umbrella term has been updated from “Autopilot Automated Assisted Driving” to simply “Assisted Driving Package.”

It should be noted that the functions of the systems, despite their updated names, remain unchanged, as noted in a CNEV Post report.

FSD’s China Evolution

Tesla China rolled out its first set of FSD features in late February, though the company made it a point to not brand the update as a release of “Full Self-Driving” features. Tesla China implemented a naming change to FSD at the time, updating its top-tier RMB 64,000 package’s name from “Full Self-driving Capability” to “FSD Intelligent Assisted Driving.” Tesla also launched an offer that allowed customers in China to experience the newly-released FSD features for free until April 16, though reports later suggested that the program was paused.

Cautious Steps Forward

Tesla has not explained the reasons behind FSD’s name change in China, though it seems to suggest that the company may be taking a rather cautious approach towards the eventual, planned release of an autonomous driving system in the country. As it is today, FSD is very capable and its real-world tests in China are very impressive. However, it is still not an unsupervised self-driving system. It would then not be surprising if “Full Self-Driving” terminology in China is reintroduced once unsupervised FSD is released.

Tesla China’s vehicle sales saw a strong recovery once the new Model Y started customer deliveries. This could be seen in China’s rankings for premium battery electric SUVs priced from RMB 200,000 to RMB 300,000 during the week of March 10-16, 2025.

As per the week’s rankings, the new Model Y’s sales are so far ahead, it would need a telescope to see its closest competitor.

Tesla China’s February Results

A look at the mainstream news cycle would show that Tesla China saw a notable drop in February. During the month, Tesla sold 30,688 vehicles wholesale, a 51.47% decline from January’s 63,238 and a 49.16% slide from the 60,365 that were sold wholesale in February 2024.

It should be noted that the new Model Y only started local deliveries in the final days of February. This meant that for the majority of the month, Tesla China was mostly clearing out its inventory of Model Y classic units. This essentially resulted in Tesla China’s strongest seller being throttled for most of February. This will likely not be the case this March.

New Model Y’s March Comeback

With the new Model Y now being delivered to domestic customers, Tesla China’s new vehicle registrations have seen a notable rise. During the week of March 10-16, 2025, Tesla China saw 15,300 new vehicle registrations, the highest for the quarter. These figures were bolstered by the new Model Y, whose local sales reached 9,451 units during the week.

With 9,451 units sold during the week ending March 16, the new Model Y became China’s best-selling premium electric SUV priced from RMB 200,000 to RMB 300,000. This is a notable accomplishment for the new Model Y, especially since its closest competitor, the Zeekr 7X, was able to sell just 1,390 units during the same week. That’s just about 14% of the new Model Y’s sales.

Tesla China’s Potential Q1 Results

Considering that Tesla China did not start local deliveries of the new Model Y until late February, it would not be surprising if the electric vehicle maker’s first quarter delivery numbers show a year-over-year decline. A clearer view of the new Model Y’s overall effect on Tesla China’s local sales would likely become more evident in the coming quarters.

Tesla has launched a massive promotion in China for its release of Full Self-Driving in the country in an effort to push more owners to adopt the driver-assistance feature shortly after it rolled out in the country.

Tesla is allowing owners in China to upgrade to one free month of Full Self-Driving between March 17 and April 16, as all eligible vehicles will be able to have thirty days of the software available on their vehicles.

The feature will be available to those drivers who have not purchased the Full Self-Driving suite on their vehicle, according to an announcement the company made on its mobile app.

The company’s announcement on the app reads:

“We are launching this campaign based on goodwill for customers to experience Tesla’s in-house developed advanced assisted driving features for free.”

The use of Full Self-Driving will likely help many drivers see the advantages of having access to the system and could spike adoption in China, where Tesla launched the suite earlier this year.

It is currently listed at a price of RMB 64,000, or roughly $8,850.
