Tesla Model Y is equipped with a power liftgate as seen in a video shared on Instagram ahead of the much anticipated first customer deliveries slated for this weekend.

Unlike the Model 3 which Tesla’s first all-electric crossover shares 75% of its DNA with, Model Y comes standard with an automatic trunk feature that’s similar to the one found in the company’s premium flagship Model S and Model X.

A Model Y power liftgate provides easier access to the vehicle’s rear cargo space through remote control via Tesla’s mobile app or activated manually via a hatch-mounted button. It can also be opened and closed through the vehicle’s touchscreen control from within the vehicle.

The Model Y power liftgate adds to the practicality of the electric crossover’s expansive rear cargo and trunk space Photos of the Tesla Model Y rear cargo space revealed that it is comparable to that of the larger Model X flagship SUV. Original poster and Instagram user Ur4_speed’s Model Y video also shows the generous space that can be used for luggage storage, groceries, sports equipment, among other things an average family would need to bring on road trips.

Conversely, Tesla Model 3 owners do not have access to a standard power liftgate feature from the factory but have a myriad of aftermarket options to choose from. Tesla owner and YouTuber Tesla Raj, for one, demonstrated the convenience of having a power tailgate module in his Model 3. The end result is an automated rear trunk that resembles that of the Model S and Model X, which come standard with the feature. Some aftermarket power liftgates also come with an optional foot sensor that can automatically open and close the rear hatch.

Tesla Model 3 is the perfect car in many ways but here are our picks for the Top 10 Model 3 accessories that can make it even better!

First, it’s worth noting that while Teslarati receives an abundance of inquiries from vendors who seek product endorsement, all of the products in our pick are actual products that one of our several Model 3-owning team members have either purchased for personal use or had a favorable and memorable experience with!

Here’s our Top 10 pick for Tesla Model 3 accessories!

Tesla Model 3 Ultra-bright LED Lighting Kit

The Tesla Model 3 is equipped with LED lights inside that many have said are just simply not bright enough, specifically in the trunk. That’s why we chose this lighting kit from Abstract Ocean. These are the exact same size and easy to replace lights that are 5x brighter. Installation is as simple plug n’ play helped by its precision fit.

Improve trunk visibility and elegantly highlight Model 3’s beautiful interior with this Tesla Model 3 Ultra-Bright LED kit!

Tesla Model 3 Ultra-Bright LED lights

Tesla Tire Repair Kit

The Tesla Model 3, like the Model S and Model X, does not come with a spare tire and thus it’s vitally important to carry a tire repair kit in case of a flat tire. Tesla’s Tire Repair Kit includes a 12V air compressor that’s useful for maintaining recommended tire pressures, which is especially useful when you face the dreaded low tire pressure warning indicators. Plus, maintaining proper tire pressure ensures maximum range!

The device has a built-in sensor that will electronically check for a secure connection between the sealant hose and tire valve to prevent accidental misuse of the kit.

We highly recommend the Tesla Tire Repair Kit for every Model 3, Model S, and Model X owner!

Scent Wedge

The new car smell that some people love is a result of chemical off-gassing in the car. Some people love it, and others can’t wait to get rid of it! With no regular vents, traditional air fresheners tend to be overpowering and disrupt the minimal aesthetic of the car.  That’s why we recommend ScentWedge. It is a discreet all-natural aroma for your Tesla Model 3. We like it because it stays hidden and adds a non-overpowering scent to your car that can be controlled with the intensity of your heater.

Tesla Model 3 Center Console Wrap by Tesla Bros

Tesla Model 3’s OEM center console is a glossy piano black finish.  Some like it but many despise it because it attracts a ton of lint, scratches, and fingerprints. Tesla Bro’s makes a premium 3M vinyl wrap that’s easy-to-apply and available in a variety of colors and finishes to suit your taste!

This Tesla Model 3 center console wrap is a quick, easy, and cheap way to give your car a unique look while protecting it at the same time.

Tesla Model 3 Seat Safety Lock by Drop Lock

With the rise of Tesla Model 3 break-ins via the rear quarter window, giving thieves access to the trunk, having a way to secure the back seat latch is the number one defense for the unattended intrusion. Tesla’s Sentry Mode has helped capture footage that led to captures of criminals, but keeping your valuables safe in the trunk is arguably even more important.

Because of that, we recommend DROPLOCK. A simple, cheap and easy way to “lock” the back seats from being able to be folded down. This will protect your valuables in your trunk from being stolen and deter any would-be thieves.

Tesla Model 3 Screen Protector

Model 3 has one large, amazing touch screen which is used to control just about everything in the car.  However, the downside to having everything touch-based is… well… they show fingerprints! Additionally, fingerprints combined with the reflective glass can make it difficult to clearly view the screen when in sunlight.

For those reasons, we recommend this popular Tesla Model 3 screen protector on Amazon that’s popular with the Tesla community, easy to apply, and makes Model 3’s touchscreen simple to see, any time of day.

All-weather Tesla Model 3 Custom Fit Floor Mats

With the need for all-season protection from rain/snow/dirt and general everyday use, the Tesla owner’s community has turned to this proven, all-weather floor mat. We recommend the 3D MAXpider Tesla Model 3 Custom Fit Floor Mats because of its anti-slip design, precision fit with a non-invasive look that blends with the Model 3 interior, and its affordable price point!

Tesla Model 3 License Plate Holder

In many states, there is a requirement for front license plates however Tesla’s option is to drill a license plate holder onto the vehicle. Naturally, Tesla Model 3 owners wouldn’t like the idea of sticking something to their new car and so enters The Bandit. This lightweight and durable license plate bracket is CNC-machined in California for a precision fit onto the bottom grill and doesn’t touch the paint of the car.

Be it for a car show or washing your car, The Bandit’s Tesla Model 3 license plate bracket can be easily secured and removed.

Tesla Model 3 Center Console Organizer

We get it. You love your stuff, but Tesla Model 3’s minimalistic interior may not.

Without a good way to organize your belongings inside the Tesla Model 3 center console, many owners find their loose belongings clunking around inside the center console while being virtually impossible to find. It needs some organization.

This Tesla Model 3 Center Console Organizer brings additional functionality to the big, bucket-like openness of the factory console. Doing away with the need to reach down to the bottom of the center console, while fishing around aimlessly in an attempt to find something is a thing of the past.

That’s why we like the Model 3 center console organizer. It’s cheap; it’s very functional and takes the frustration away from finding our favorite sunglasses and the FastTrak!

USB Drive for Model 3 TeslaCam and Sentry Mode

With safety and security in mind, the best part of the Tesla Model 3 is the built-in Sentry Mode Alarm system.  However, to make the most out of this we recommend getting a good USB drive so that the video footage can be recorded for you to view later.  The USB drive that we recommend is Sandisk iXpand Mini 128gb USB drive, which provides ample storage space for TeslaCam footage.

But, perhaps, our favorite feature of this USB stick is Sandisk’s compatibility with the Sentry View app, giving Model 3 owners a way to quickly view the footage directly from their iPhones without needing to download the footage.

When the SEMA show went down in Las Vegas, I was particularly delighted to see so many companies featuring a Tesla on display at their booth. But one particular Tesla Model S made a splashy entrance at this year’s automotive specialty parts trade show when it unveiled a wide body transformation of the all-electric sedan.

Above: Kenny Pfitzer at Zero to 60 designs created a new front end bumper that gives a far more aggressive aesthetic (Photo: EVANNEX)

I had the opportunity to sit down with Kenny Pfitzer at Zero to 60 designs to discuss his Zero TS body kit custom-designed for the Tesla Model S.

Pfitzer started restoring cars like the 1960 Volkswagen Microbus in his Dad’s garage. As a teenager, he learned the craft from his father Karl Pfitzer who was a rocket scientist with NASA. Later, Kenny went on to a prolific 20-year career at Metal Crafters, Foose Designs, and West Coast Customs where he worked on high-profile celebrity car builds made popular on their TV show.

Above: Interview with Kenny Pfitzer of Zero to 60 designs, designer of the new Zero TS aftermarket body kit for Tesla (Youtube: EVANNEX Aftermarket Tesla Accessories)

Pfitzer started Zero to 60 designs to be one of America’s top creative automotive design houses. He decided his marquis project for SEMA this year would be a completely reimagined Tesla Model S. Pfitzer explained that he designed a full Model S body kit including a customized front, rear, rockers and optional side fenders to give it a bold, performance look.

Above: Subtle side fenders add style along with new wheels (Photo: EVANNEX)

Pfitzer noted that the Tesla Model S he had on display at SEMA included a $40,000 exterior PPG paint job in dolphin gray with a Solar Gard clear topcoat to help protect the finish. In addition, this Model S was also fitted with black HRE wheels, custom Brembo brakes, and Nexen Nfera tires.

Above: This stunning $40,000 “dolphin gray” paint job flatters the lines and curves of Pfitzer’s new design (Photo: EVANNEX)

Pfitzer also showed me the interior which was transformed with a European red leather — double-stitched in an ornate diamond-shaped pattern. Bolsters were also added to the seats for extra comfort. In addition, the windows were tinted with Solar Gard’s LX Series protective window film. Pricing for the Zero TS hadn’t been finalized but Pfitzer said the body kit starts around $6,500 and goes up from there.

Above: Pfitzer forgoes carbon fiber accents and (instead) chose a glossy piano black finish on the spoiler, logo area, and redesigned rear diffuser (Photo: EVANNEX)

In the past, Pfitzer had worked with the Ford Motor Company to develop their Ford Bronco Concept. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s angling to have this customized Model S catch the eye of Tesla’s internal design team. In any event, judging by the chatter at the unveiling, the SEMA crowd seemed quite impressed with the car. And based on this successful showing at SEMA, it’s likely you’ll be seeing more from Fitzer (soon) with the Model 3.

Tesla has launched a portable battery, dubbed “Powerbank”, and a Desktop Supercharger just in time for the busy holiday shopping season. The new accessories have been added to the company’s online store and aimed at providing mobile device users with a little extra juice.

At the core of Tesla’s Powerbank is a single 18650 lithium ion battery cell that’s arguably become best known as the foundation for the Model S and Model X battery pack. Tesla’s flagship consumer cars leverage thousands of 18650 cells that are packed into individual modules to ultimately give its vehicles the long-range and performance capabilities they’re best known for. But instead of having 100 kWh of battery capacity, enough energy to move a vehicle weighing over two-tons more than 300 miles (482 km), the Powerbank has enough energy to power your standard iOS or Android mobile device with its 3350 mAh capacity.

The $45 Powerbank is designed and inspired after Tesla’s supercharger monument at the Tesla Design Studio.

The Tesla Powerbank features:

  • Compact Design
  • Integrated USB
  • Integrated Apple lightning and detachable micro USB
  • High efficiency circuitry to deliver maximum battery capacity
  • Charge status indicator

Technical Specs:

  • Single 18650 cell with 3350mAh capacity
  • Input: 1800±200mA
  • Output: 5V/1.5A max

In addition to the portable battery, Tesla also added a Desktop Supercharger to its storefront which in essence is a miniature Supercharger for your mobile device. Tesla notes that the accessory was modeled off of the same 3D CAD data used to manufacture the actual Supercharger.

Though this isn’t a life-sized unit, as we recently saw when one Tesla owner decided to build a Supercharger for their garage, it’s nonetheless fun to have a working miniature version of it sitting on ones desktop.

DIYers, of course, can also 3D-print their own Supercharger.

Tesla continues to increase the number of Model 3 accessories being made available in its online store, this time adding an all-weather cargo mat to the Model 3 product catalog.

Trunk and front trunk “frunk” mats are arguably “must have” accessories for any Tesla owner that’s looking to protect the vehicle’s mat from dirt, water, snow, and general debris from cargo. It’s often a first-purchase item for new Tesla owners and having a set is akin to buying a case for your new smart phone.

The Model 3 cargo mats can be purchased individually from Tesla and priced at $70 for the frunk mat and $130 for the trunk mat. Priced at $200 for the pair, we expect that a variety of more affordable aftermarket Model 3 all-weather mats will be offered for purchase once the vehicle becomes more readily available on the market. We saw the same behavior when manufactures began selling Model S and Model X aftermarket mats shortly after first vehicle deliveries began.

Here’s a good look at the Model 3 trunk and frunk from early owner PTFI via Twitter.

“Tesla Model 3 All-Weather Cargo Mats are precisely made using the latest in digital laser measurements for your Model 3. This extreme-duty floor protection covers and protects your Model 3 by keeping it free from dirt and spills.” reads the product description on Tesla’s online shop.

Tesla also notes that the cargo mats are 100% recyclable and made from “thermoplastic elastomer” material that’s free of any Cadmium, Lead, Latex or PVCs.

Los Angeles-based Unplugged Performance has released a rendering of a Tesla Model 3 dressed in a sleek aftermarket body kit and Ultra-light wheels. As tuners begin to stake their claim in the Model 3 aftermarket accessories market, Unplugged is looking to provide a more unique experience for the discerning owner by methodically transforming their Model 3 into an aggressive and sportier “Model 3 P” that has performance in mind.

The company is offering a bespoke, low-volume Model 3 that will feature aero treatments, ultra-lightweight wheels and a ceramic brake upgrade through the company’s “Complete Car Program”.

“While Tesla desires to make the Model 3 as rapidly and inexpensively as possible, the Unplugged Performance variant Model 3 will be made slowly, in an artisan fashion befitting of a Supercar experience.” says the California-based tuner. “The Unplugged Performance Model 3 will be the car Tesla does not want to make themselves: An ultra-low production, artisan made specialty vehicle for a limited audience of motoring enthusiasts.”

In addition to being able to purchase a loaded Model 3 with the company’s full aftermarket treatment, Unplugged Performance also said it will release parts individually. The company aims to have three separate Model 3 variants, with the “P” (or highest performing) version.

“Every vehicle will be one of a kind,” CEO Ben Schaffer tells Teslarati. The Model 3 buyer is “involved in interior material selections, colors, stitching detail, exterior color, body design specification, wheel design specification and custom tailored performance attributes to each owner’s driving preference.”

Though Tesla will not be producing the dual motor Performance variant of the Model 3 until mid-2018, Unplugged Performance notes that they will be offering their own “P” version of the vehicle that will be outfitted with a multitude of add-ons, including carbon fiber treatments, re-tuned suspension, Ultra-light wheels with titanium lug nuts, and other made-to-order interior detailing. All of the coloring, carbon fiber detailing and even audio systems are also made-to-order. Pricing has yet to be announced.

For some Model 3 drivers, the Unplugged Performance’s Complete Car Program and ala carte aftermarket bodykit upgrade could be seen as a way to add personalization to a car that has been characterized as elegance through simplicity.

After the initial test drives by members of the media in late July, some claimed that the Model 3’s design was among its best features.

While the Unplugged Performance body modification does provide a luxury twist to the Model 3, many owners may be just fine with the elegant design dreamed up by Tesla CEO Elon Musk and his team.

What do you think? What aftermarket modifications do you plan to get for your Model 3, if any? Let us know in the comments below.

Arguably one of the most popular Tesla aftermarket accessories being purchased by Model S, Model X, and soon-to-be Model 3 owners is a dash cam. The unobtrusive front and rear-facing video recorders being installed by owners can be seen as affordable 24-7 surveillance of a vehicle’s surroundings and added peace of mind for the price of a few hundred dollars.

Here at Teslarati, we’ve done our fair share of Tesla dash cam reviews and How-Tos, including an in-depth look at popular BlackVue versus THINKWARE’s dash cam offering.

The popularity of purchasing an aftermarket dash cam can soon be a thing of the past for Tesla owners if one’s to read into the latest tweet by Elon Musk. Tesla’s CEO took to twitter to address a comment by one follower that calls out Tesla for not leveraging one of the many onboard cameras as a dash cam.

“That many cameras on board and we still have to buy a separate Dashcam?! I hope @elonmusk adds a feature to export last x mins of video.” tweets Nick G.

True to fashion, albeit on seemingly random occurrences, Musk replied to the feature request with a tweet of his own, saying “Feature coming soon”. Though Musk’s response was concise, it nonetheless confirms that the Palo Alto-based electric car maker is thinking about creating a Tesla dash cam of its own simply by opening up the ability to share a vehicle’s video footage directly with their owners.

With, already, confirmation that Tesla records snippets of video taken from the cameras of Autopilot-enabled vehicles, for the purpose of retaining accident footage but also to collect real world driving data for the company’s Autopilot program, allowing the hardware to double as a dash cam makes sense.

Musk recently announced that any Tesla in the world will soon auto-adjust to ones seating and driving preferences by storing the settings in the cloud. In other words, Tesla will upload personal preferences into internet-accessible servers akin to a web browser saving one’s bookmarks onto the internet so that it can be retrieved regardless of the computer being used.

The ‘coming soon feature’ being teased by Musk, will likely provide Model S, Model X and Model 3 owners with access to photos and videos that were captured by their vehicle through the company’s MyTesla (now labeled as My Account) page.

Following our report that Tesla has begun to include Model 3 accessories to the its online store, the company has introduced a separate indoor and outdoor car cover to would-be Model 3 buyers that are interested in protecting the vehicle’s exterior paint finish.

The new stretch satin Model 3 car cover with storage bag “fits your Tesla like a glove” according to the description of the product on the company’s Shop page. Tesla indicates that the breathable car cover can be purchased in either an indoor ($300) or outdoor ($350) version. The Model 3 car cover for outdoor use is fabricated with two durable layers of woven polyester and combined with a middle layer made of Thermoplastic Polyurethane. The combination makes for “the best water resistance available today” according to Tesla.

Similar to aftermarket protective covers we’ve reviewed for Model S, Tesla’s Model 3 car cover is provisioned with a charge port opening that makes it easy to charge the vehicle while still protecting the vehicle’s paint from door dings and scratches associated with indoor storage, or hash elements from outdoor weather.

As Tesla continues to accelerate production ramp up and prepares to deliver thousands of Model 3 vehicles to new owners, expect to see a variety Model 3 accessories and new SKUs making its way into the company’s catalog.

Though most Model 3 reservation holders won’t see delivery of their vehicle for months, if not a year later, that hasn’t stopped some soon-to-be owners from purchasing their accessories early. Our very own Marco Papa tells us that he has already ordered and received the Model 3 glass roof sunshade and phone charging cable.

“Many of the model S items went quickly out of stock. And it could be months before they are back. It will be worse for Model 3. Especially the sunshade I wanted to get right away, and it was delivered in 2 days! Same for the 2 iPhone connectors. I expect it to be an items what will not be easy to get once Model 3 sale start picking up.”

Do you know of other Model 3 accessories being offered by either Tesla or aftermarket manufacturers? Whether it’s Model 3 aftermarket wheels, rear wing spoilers or keycard covers, leave us a comment and let the community know what type of accessory you’re looking forward to seeing.

Tesla board member and owner of the fifth production Model 3, Steve Jurvetson, published a new video that demonstrates Model 3’s motorized charge port. There’s been wide speculation that Model 3’s swing-up style charge port door was only capable of self-opening, but Jurvetson’s latest video confirms that the door is also capable of closing on its own. This provides further validation that Model 3 is designed to be a fully autonomous vehicle that will serve as the foundation for the Tesla Network.

With a charge port door that’s fully automated, but can also be manually initiated through Tesla’s mobile app as Jurvetson demonstrates, Model 3 will eventually be able to self-charge through Tesla’s upcoming robotic ‘snake charger’ that CEO Elon Musk has long talked about.

The video also gives us a first glimpse of Tesla’s redesigned universal mobile connector (UMC). The seemingly smaller and lighter mobile charger comes as standard equipment with each Model 3. US-based owners have the option to plug their UMC into a 14-50 plug type (50A) or purchase an optional Tesla Wall Connector that was recently added as one of several Tesla Model 3 accessories to the company’s online store.

Tesla has listed the first Model 3 accessories for sale in the company’s online storefront. Similar to the accessories being offered to Model S and Model X owners, buyers of Tesla’s mass market Model 3 have the option to purchase a Tesla charger for their home or business, and an additional J1772 charging adapter for use at public charging stations.

In addition to the high amperage charger, billed as the Tesla “Wall Connector” that’s capable of replenishing approximately 30 to 50 miles of range per hour (~50 to 80 km/h), Model 3 buyers also have the option to purchase a Front Glass Roof Sunshade and Phone Charging Cable.

Model 3 Phone Charging Cable

Model 3 has a rubbery pad that rests on top of an angled surface that’s located below the vehicle’s 15″ center display and above the center console cupholders. Drivers will have the ability to “blind holster” the same smartphone that will be used to unlock and start their Model 3, into a charging port located on the bottom of the phone dock.

Photos from the Model 3 Owner’s Manual reveal how the phone’s charging cable is installed within the dock.

The choice between a Lightning cable, a Micro-USB or USB-C cable with a right angle terminal is being sold through Tesla’s online store for $14.00 each.

Model 3 Glass Roof Sunshade

Like the Model S, Model 3 will have an optional glass roof that provides an unparalleled above head view and an expansive, open cabin feel. Though Model 3’s tinted glass roof already protects from ultraviolet and infrared rays – Model S’ panoramic roof blocks 98% of UV rays and 81% of heat – buyers wanting additional sun protection can purchase the Glass Roof Sunshade from Tesla’s online store for $75.00.

The product description reads:

Constructed of lightweight mesh fabric with a collapsible rigid frame, the Model 3 Glass Roof Sunshade blocks two thirds of solar thermal load. Easily removable, the sunshade is installed onto the interior of the glass roof with provided clips. When removed, the shades collapse and store in an 18-inch square pouch.
